Cardinals win 56-53

No. 1 seed Ball State University avenged a loss to No. 5 seed Western Michigan University two weeks ago, earning a 56-53 victory over the Broncos in the quarterfinal round of Tuesday's Mid-American Conference tournament.

Ball State was led by junior forward Julie DeMuth, who scored 25 points and added 16 rebounds. Lisa Rusche added 15 points and seven rebounds for the Cardinals.

Broncos' senior guard Carrie Moore, who leads the nation in scoring with 25.6 points per game, missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would've sent the game into overtime. Moore finished with 19 points.

Ball State will play No. 3 seed Northern Illinois University in Friday's semifinal game. The Huskies upset No. 2 seed Kent State University 72-68.
