As the current student member on the Board of Trustees, I want to challenge students to get involved with Ball State University on a higher level.
You can easily do this by applying to be my replacement, because my time on the board will be ending shortly after I graduate. Student Government Association is running the application process now, and I strongly encourage those students who are interested to put in an application; what have you to lose?
You might be interested in this position but are completely unaware as to what your role would encompass. You should not feel alone. I felt the same way before I applied. What I can tell you is that I have been able to gain insight into a part of college life that I truly feel only one student gets to experience every two years.
As a member on the board, you are seen and treated as an equal to the members who have served the university for more than a decade. The student role is very important because we, the students, help to keep the board's view of the university's needs current.
However, as the student member you are representing more than just the students. You are given the title of student trustee, but you are actually representing the state of Indiana, Ball State and trying to provide an insider's view on the university buzz.
I would love to give more personal feedback and answer any questions you might have about this position.
Even if you are simply curious, you can come to the open forum today in the Student Center Forum Room. You can come talk to me in person and get a better grasp on the position. We hope to see you there!
