It's been a slow week for the Ball State University women's basketball team. For the first time in more than a month, the Cardinals have had a week off between games.-á
The break gave the Cardinals a chance to catch their breath in the middle of the Mid-American Conference season.
Ball State senior point guard Kelsey Corbin said the rest will pay dividends later in the season.-á
"We're going to be on the road a lot in February," Corbin said. "Most importantly it helped us get caught up on school work, which is always helpful. But I think it will also prove to be helpful during the next couple of weeks."-á
Ball State returned to practice Wednesday before leaving Thursday for the University of Buffalo. The Cardinals face the Bulls on Saturday in their first game since losing their first home game of the season.-á
Ball State coach Tracy Roller said the team is focused on rebounding after the Cardinals' first loss in 11 games.-á
"We had a very good practice Wednesday and everybody was very focused," Roller said. "The way we handle wins is the way we handle losses. We learn from it, we improve from it and we move on. This team doesn't get too high or too low."-á
Last week's loss came after the Cardinals received votes in both national polls for the first time in five years. Ball State didn't slip in either poll this week, earning four votes in The Associated Press poll and three in the USA Today Coaches Poll.-á
Though the Cardinals remained as strong in the polls, Corbin said last week's loss taught the team a lesson.-á
"I think we were paying attention to the polls a little more than we should have last week," Corbin said. "I don't think anybody has really looked at the polls this week. Unless we win, it really doesn't matter if we're ranked."
