TRACK: Cards send statement at Forum

Ball State takes home all but one event at Anderson meet

After last weeks competitive Meyo Invitational where the Ball State University women's track and field team did not win a single event, the Cardinals enjoyed more success at the Anderson University Runners Forum Saturday.

Ball State won all but one of the 12 events it entered, and managed to do so without straining its roster.

Coach Randy Heisler said every time the team competes it is important to do its best, but straining the team to win any meet other than a Mid-American Conference one is pointless.

"We're continually running thin, but the focus is always on MAC and doing the best we can there," Heisler said. "That doesn't mean that we are telling the kids not to compete hard, we're just not making them run multiple events that will jeopardize their health."

The meet began with wins by junior Amber Williams in the 200-meter dash, 55-meter dash and the 55-meter hurdles.

Williams, who has enjoyed success this season with wins in every meet but the Meyo Invitational, said while success in a meet like the Runners Forum is fun, it's important not to dwell on it.

"With a meet like this you don't want to get your hopes up and get too high on what you are doing," Williams said. "Its important to always go in prepared and ready."

Individual running event winners other than Williams included Amanda Brewer in the 400-meter dash (1:02.45), Amanda Ponsot in the 800-meter run (2:19.53) and Ali Bishel in the 3,000-meter run (10:05.13).

Ball State also had four field event champions: Jessica Genovese in the high jump (5-3), Lauren McNichols in the Pole Vault (10-11 3/4), Tamelca Lewis in the triple jump (40-2 1/4) and Ali Zuiderviet in the shot put (38-3 1/2).

The Cardinals play host to the Ball State Triangular Friday, one week prior to the MAC Indoor Championships.
