Ball State University's men's basketball team will head to Northern Illinois University to try to turn around a struggling season.
The Cardinals (8-16, 4-7 Mid-American Conference) already have one victory over the Huskies (6-17, 3-8 MAC), a 71-60 win on Jan. 16. The matchup saw Skip Mills, Micah Rollin and Anthony Newell each score 16 points and Northern's Mike McKinney score 20. It is also the fourth-most points the Cardinals have scored all year.
However, they have only one win away from Worthen Arena this season. The last time the Cardinals finished a season with only one road victory was in 1974-75 when Jim Holstein coached the Cardinals' squad and finished 10-15 in the season before Ball State joined the MAC.
One thing the Cards will look to do is get off to a good start. In their last three games, Ball State has let opponents start on a significant run, and only against the University at Buffalo were they able to come back to win a game.
Ball State will also look for more production from its starting lineup. Against Miami University on Saturday, the starting five combined for 29 points and 13 rebounds in the blow out 66-44 loss.
Several marks will be in reach for the Cardinals. Mills will enter the game 12 points shy of Randy Boarden and 13 points shy of Chris Williams on the all-time Ball State scoring list. Peyton Stovall needs only one 3-pointer to move into a tie for seventh with Mark Hardwick for a career 3-point shots made.
The game was originally scheduled to be broadcast on the Ball State Sports Network, but the broadcast was cancelled due to the impending snow storm. Tip-off will be at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
