Cardinal Lanes has high hopes that Ball State University will approve a plan that will offer free bowling and billiards to all students.
Cardinal Lanes manager Scott Evans said free bowling and billiards could be made possible by adding $5 to every student's tuition for each semester.
Ball State students will then be able to bowl and play pool for free at any time, not only during Late Nite events, he said.
This plan was created with the hope of attracting more students to the L.A. Pittenger Student Center.
Residence Hall Association Vice President Zach Branch said RHA supports Evans' plan.
"We're pushing for it," Branch said. "It'll help get more people to come to the Student Center."
Student Government Association President Asher Lisec said she was not aware of the plan to provide free bowling and billiards by adding money onto students' tuition.
"SGA is not comfortable supporting this until they know the number of students that will be using it," she said.
Currently, bowling is $2 per game for Ball State students, $2.25 per game for others and $1.25 for shoe rental, Evans said. Billiards is $3 per hour for Ball State students and $4 per hour for others, he said.
After bowling two games students will have gotten their money's worth, Evans said.
In the Fall Semester, a survey was distributed to students addressing whether they would come to Cardinal Lanes more often if they didn't have to pay every time, he said. The results were substantial enough for Evans to push for free bowling and billiards, he said. By adding this fee to tuition, it will be easier for organizations and groups of friends to come and bowl unlimitedly.
The goal of Ball State has been to enhance students' social lives, and there isn't a safer place on campus to come and hang out with friends, he said.
"I really hope it comes to pass," Evans said, "but as of right now, it has not yet been approved."
Cardinal Lanes is also looking to improve its scoring machines and put in new furniture to make students' visits more comfortable, he said.
