Dining won't accept debit until Spring Break

Students will have to wait a little longer to use their debit and credit cards to pay for food, Ball State University director of operations for dining Liz Poore said.

"I am hoping we have the new software up and running by Spring Break," Poore said. "However, just because I am hoping for it does not mean it is going to happen."

Senior Frank Patterson heard he would be able to use his credit card by the beginning of the Spring Semester.

"Man, was I hoping for it, too," Patterson said. "It would be so convenient."

The software, which comes from CBORD, a food service software company, will give Ball State's Atrium, Bookmark Caf+â-¬ and Noyer Retreat credit and debit card transaction capabilities.

Poore said she was not at liberty to give the contact information of Ball State's contact at CBORD, but said the company said it would be four to six weeks for the software to arrive.

After the software arrives, CBORD technicians will have to install it into the cash registers, make sure the software works properly and train the Dining staff to use the system, Poore said.

The department began looking into allowing credit and debit card transactions last year after hearing from students, faculty and staff that they wanted different ways to pay for their food, she said.

Until then, students like Patterson have no other choice but to wait.

"That makes me so angry," Patterson said. "But what can I do?"
