OUR VIEW: Go Go Gadget Phone

AT?ISSUE:?Mobile technology improves with iPhone unveiling, future upgrades could be better

Mobile phones were once a luxury that merely allowed calls to be made or received while away from the office or home.

Recall: "Saved by the Bell's" ever-witty Zack Morris proudly carrying around his brick of a cell phone.

On Tuesday, Apple Inc. officially debuted the iPhone, the latest member of the growing smart phone market.

Reminiscing about James Bond's everything-in-one gadgets is useless - the iPhone has everything Bond had and more: Internet browsing capabilities, a widescreen video iPod, a touchscreen-like interface and, oh yeah, a keypad to dial out on.

While geeks everywhere drool over the capabilities of Apple's latest toy, we've already started thinking ahead to what the future could hold for the market of genius phones.

We use the term genius loosely.

To explain, we've compiled 10 ideas that we think might be useful in the mobile phone of tomorrow ... or maybe the day after.

1. Scanning, printing and shredding combo - because the old-timers still use paper.

2. Built-in shaving razor - because the Razr left something to be desired when trying to take care of that five o'clock shadow.

3. Built-in LCD projector - to show off the movies and presentations to the entire room at one time.

4. Indestructible outer skin - to stop bullets in a hostile takeover by Google.

5. Virtual LED keyboard - boldly typing where no laptop has typed before.

6. Built-in TASER - your Three 6 Mafia ringtone isn't scary anymore.

7. Safety lock for TASER - If you thought accidently hitting send was a pain...

8. Built-in breathalyzer - No more drunk dials.

9. Automatic teller machine - so you can print money that the Secret Service doesn't have to put you in jail for.

10. And we can't forget, global satellite phone capabilities - because the phone is still the most important feature, right?
