Urban Meyer is more than just the University of Florida football coach. It appears he has political aspirations after his performance the past two weeks. His lobbying evidently tugged at the hearts of the voters in the USA Today Coaches and the Harris Interactive polls, as both vaulted the Gators from fourth to second. Voters evidently bought into the "Michigan had its chance" rhetoric that Meyer and others were spewing. One person who didn't buy into the talk was Ball State University coach Brady Hoke. As a voter in the USA Today poll, Hoke put Michigan second, Florida third, Southern California fourth and Wisconsin fifth. Of course, Hoke used to coach at Michigan, so there's a little bit of bias. But the Bowl Championship Series is supposed to pit the two best teams. Did any of the voters even watch Florida this year? Doesn't anyone realize that Chris Leak is a terrible quarterback? He's more like Chris Rix with a better support system. Comparing this year's Florida team with the 2002 Ohio State team - which CBS color man Gary Danielson did - is weak. Florida's defense is better statistically, but not at quarterback. Craig Krenzel didn't bring much to the table, but he didn't take anything away either. He just didn't turn the ball over. Leak, on the other hand, has thrown 13 interceptions.Regardless, there are plenty of great matches in the BCS. Let's take a look.Rose Bowl - USC v. MichiganJohn David Booty was exposed against UCLA. Expect Michigan's front seven to put pressure on USC all day because, like Florida, USC can't run the ball. Wolverines by 14.
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl - Boise State v. OklahomaThe Broncos have a nice win over Oregon State University and Ian Johnson is a good running back, but Oklahoma should win this game convincingly. Oklahoma by 21.
FedEx Orange Bowl - Louisville v. Wake ForestWake Forest snuck in under everyone's radar until, oh, Saturday when everyone realized, wait, they're 11-2? Louisville is an offsides penalty away from playing for the national championship. This one could get ugly, folks. Cardinals by 35.
Allstate Sugar Bowl - Notre Dame v. LSUTwenty point losses to good teams are a recurring theme for the Irish. LSU by 21.
Tostitos BCS Championship Game - Florida v. Ohio StateWhat's worrisome is the Buckeyes will go 51 days between games. Then I realize Florida can't run the ball and Leak makes bad decisions. Florida's run defense is great, but so is Michigan's. Look what the Buckeyes did to them, running for 130 yards. The Buckeyes have too much firepower If Florida is going to stay in the game, it's going to have to do it Chicago Bears style: defense and get lucky on special teams. Then you see the Gators' field goal kicker is 4-of-13 on the year. Ohio State by 17.
