In March 2006, University Senate approved changes to the academic calendar that will eliminate Saturday finals and a day of Fall Break starting with the 2007-08 school year.
On the new calendar, Fall Break runs Friday through Sunday. Finals are Monday through Friday. And students attend Friday classes on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break, creating what will be known as "Fruesday."
No, we didn't make that up.
Funny words aside, Fall Break as we know it now ceases to exist.
To give our mini-vacation a proper goodbye, we've fought back our tears and drafted this heart-felt poem.
While Fall Break is not truly gone, a little piece - about 24 hours, to be precise - has left us forever.
Without further ado, we give you "An Ode to Fall Break."
Oh Fall Break, we'll miss you so.You gave us rest before winter's snow.
Thanks to Gora's mighty pen, your time has come to a fateful end.
Sure, Saturday finals are no more -that motion passed across SGA's floor.
University Senate thought the idea was swell. Now we have a "Fruesday" - what in the hell?
Gone is a day of our beloved break, one we eagerly waited so long to take.
Goodbye to you, October friend; We miss you now, and sure will then.
