Dear Editor,
In October 2004 on Frontpagemag.com, an article written by Thomas Ryan appeared entitled "Recruiting for Terror." In this article, David Horowitz accused the Ball State Peace Center of recruiting students for a student group called Peaceworkers that Horowitz claimed was a radical Leftist group that supported terrorism.
He also absurdly claimed that professor George Wolfe taught students to sympathize with terrorists. Horowitz further stated that the Muslim Student Association sympathized with the terrorist enemies of the United States and that the MSA had ties with Hamas and other terrorist organizations. What evidence does he have to make such absurd statements?
The MSA has worked hard to promote understanding between Muslims and followers of other faiths and has a good relationship with other religious organizations. In fact, the MSA has proposed having a World Religions Week, which is being considered by the Ball State University board of Religious Advisers. MSA appreciates diversity. For neo-con thinkers like Horowitz to come to our campus and make false accusations about professors and student organizations is an embarrassment to conservatives everywhere.
Looking at Horowitz's biography, I see he has a master's degree in English, not in political science. What qualifications does he have for writing books about politics and education? He lectures how our professors are unqualified and liberally biased, yet he has not attended a single class at Ball State. My message to Horowitz: learn to follow your own principles. At your lecture, I was the person who wanted to ask you a question that you did not want to hear.
