LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Common courtesy from bikers needed on campus sidewalks

Students are trying to get to class in a hurry. Not only is traffic a problem, but so are the bikers.

As I hurry to class, I have witnessed many of these incidents: pedestrians getting hit by the handle bars, pegs and even the whole bike itself. Also, I have noticed that when a biker cannot get through, the biker will just ride right behind that person until the pedestrian gets the hint to move.

Bikers need to have common courtesy for the pedestrians, and vice versa.

When Ball State restructured McKinley, it failed to put in a bike lane. This fault has caused many accidents between the bikers and pedestrians. McKinley is not wide enough for both the cars and bicycles.

Many bikers ride on the roads because they don't have to deal with the pedestrians as much. This seems like it could be a really good idea for the pedestrians, however, more chaos has developed and more accidents have happened.

A solution to this problem could be to make another sidewalk along the "cow path," specifically for bikers. This would create fewer problems and lead to fewer accidents.

Until something is changed we all need to look out and be more cautious for one another.
