LETTER: BSU guests also need access to residence hall restrooms

One time I had a female friend over to study for a test we had the next day. She stayed until well after midnight.

When she told me, "Hey I need to go to the bathroom," I replied to her, "OK." So, abiding by the rule of my dorm, I walked her down to the floor below mine, hoping a girl was out and about so I could ask her to open the door to the bathroom for my friend. However I had no luck. Then we went to the next floor hoping for better luck. We looked and looked, but no such luck. Eventually we had to go to the bottom floor and go into the only unlocked bathroom in the dorm.

I know I am not the only person who has had this problem. There is a very simple solution that can fix it. When a male signs in a female guest the female guest gives the night staff a piece of ID and signs a form stating that she understands that her ID will be held until the bathroom card is returned. In return, the night staff gives the female guest a card that works only for the bathroom. When the night staff leaves, they just give the IDs to the person who is working the desk. The person with the bathroom card can in the morning come down and simply exchange her bathroom card for the ID she left with the night staff. The person at the desk would have every right to hold the ID until the person who has the bathroom card returns the card.
