FIELD HOCKEY: Team receives MAC tourney first round bye

After 18 regular season games the Ball State University field hockey team will receive one more day of rest than four other teams in its conference.

The Cardinals ended their conference regular season on Sunday by defeating Missouri State University 2-0, and finished in a three-way tie with Miami University and Central Michigan University for second place and a bye in the first round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament.

However, the Cardinals held the tie breaker over both of these teams, record versus ranked conference opponents, as Ball State was the lone team out of these three to defeat the No. 1 seeded Ohio University.

"As this season progressed we were fighting for a bye in the first round," assistant coach Liz Sanders said. "Having to only play two games is a lot better than having to play all three games."
