Ball State University junior Alyssa Couch died in a car accident around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night in Yorktown, the city's Police Seargent Jeff Wulff said.
The 21-year-old was driving on Jackson Street near Nebo Road when 72-year-old Muncie resident Ethel Mohler's car crossed into the opposite lane and hit Couch's car, causing it to run into a telephone pole, Wulff said. Couch's driver-side door was forced half-way into the car, Wulff said.
Mohler's car flipped over in the crash and she is still at Ball Memorial Hospital, Wulff said. Mohler does not remember any details of the crash, Wulff said,
Couch likely died upon impact due to blunt-force trauma, Wulff said.
The Yorktown police department is still working with the Delaware County Sheriff's Department crash reconstruction team to collect evidence and detemine all the details of the accident, Wulff said.
He said he did not think that any criminal charges would be pursued against Mohler because there was no criminal intent.
