WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Ball State sweeps Buffalo in three-game match, brings Cards' season conference record to 3-1

Cochran records eighth double-double with 15 kills, 17 digs

The Ball State University women's volleyball team kept its winning streak alive Saturday by beating Mid-American Conference opponent Buffalo in three games. With the win, the team's conference record increased to 3-1.

"We have gotten out of those multi match tournaments which we played horribly," coach Randy Litchfield said. "Now we are in single match cycle and the team seems to be responding well to that."

Kelly Cochran once again posted big numbers. In her last three games, she has had a double-double. Cochran led the team with 15 kills, and she also contributed 17 digs against Buffalo. The senior has shown all season that she is an all around player, and the proof is in the numbers she puts up every game. Cochran leads the team with eight double-doubles.

"She's had maybe the best week of her Ball State career and topped it off with an awesome match against Buffalo," Litchfield said.

Amanda McCormick kept her consistent defensive play up as well. After McCormick provided 50 digs against Toledo Thursday, she had a lot to live up to. However, she once again led the team with 21 digs.

"Amanda has been consistently great," Litchfield said. "I'm really excited about Cochran, Bacan and Pedrosa playing really good defensive."

Another Cardinal who played her A game Saturday was Julie Breivogel. The true freshman has stepped up and been a key player all season long. Saturday, she had 11 kills, while Brittany May also added 10 kills in the match.

Litchfield had said all week that the team needed to become more consistent with its setting and with Parrell stepping up, the team has done just that. Angie Parrell put big numbers on the board throughout all of last week's play, and she once again led the team with 31 sets Saturday.

Litchfield also commented earlier in the week that once the team found itself, everything else would fall into place. After the win over Buffalo and the change in the consistency of play, it seems as though all the chips are finally falling into place and the team is starting to come together.

"Our chemistry has improved I think its because we have dealt with our chemistry really head on," said Litchfield. "We have really had to work at it, but what we are seeing is the team understanding each other."

Ball State's next two games are home on this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. against Ohio University.

"We are really excited to host Ohio - nationally ranked Ohio," said Litchfield.
