Two Ball State University football players will spend another weekend in the Delaware County Jail until their bail is set at a bond hearing 9 a.m. Monday, jail officials said.
The initial hearing for Brandon Houston and Eulas Taylor III was held Thursday to determine the dates for each student's upcoming trials and hearings, Diane Frye, Delaware County deputy prosecutor, said. Also, they were both appointed their public defense attorneys, she said.
At Monday's bond hearing the judge will determine both men's bail and their release dates, Frye said.
Houston's pre-trial conference will be 9 a.m. Jan. 25 and Taylor's will be 9 a.m. Feb. 5, circuit court officials said. Houston's trial by jury will begin 8:30 a.m. Feb. 26 and Taylor's will begin 8:30 a.m. March 5.
Houston and Taylor are charged with two counts of burglary and two counts of receiving stolen property. The freshmen were arrested after three burglary reports were filed for missing laptops in residence halls, according to police reports.
The university will hold a hearing before Monday to determine if the students' housing contracts will be terminated or if there will be other sanctions, Alan Hargrave, associate dean of student affairs and director of housing and residence life, said.
The housing hearing is separate from the hearing before the university review board. Houston and Taylor will have to attend that hearing to determine their status as students, Hargrave said.
"The main point of the [housing] hearing is to see what evidence is available," Hargrave said. "The hearing officer then reviews the evidence and a decision is made."
The players remain indefinitely suspended from the football team.
