A man serving part of his 28-year sentence in the Hamilton County Jail will tell students the importance of avoiding a reckless lifestyle at 7 p.m. in Cardinal Hall.
Brandon Robinson, 26, ran a stop sign and crashed his truck into a car, killing three people. He had a blood alcohol content of 0.099 percent, which was less than the legal limit, but he was 18.
Robinson was convicted on three counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing death and two counts of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious bodily injury in 1998.
"We're bringing him here because we've had him once before speaking to a DUI panel, and he was so good and so effective and so sincere," Pat Hart, executive director of the Delaware County Coordinating Council to Prevent Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse, said.
About 20,000 community members have heard Robinson's message since his conviction, according to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
Robinson emphasizes the only difference between him and many young people is one crash, Hart said. He was 19 at the time of his conviction and had his whole life ahead of him, Hart said.
"He's just a nice-looking, clean-cut, all-American young man," Hart said. "He's someone you'd pass on the street and think, 'what a nice young man,' and he is, but this happened to him, so that's why he's trying to get the word out."
Robinson will show a DVD slideshow of pictures from him his life in Hamilton County. He will also pass out copies of his brochure, "My Journey," a personal narrative that documents his childhood, prison sentence and conversion to Christianity.
