The Ball State women's golf team posted a two-round score of 635 to finish ninth at the 2006 Cardinal Classic this past weekend in Yorktown.
The tournament consisted of 17 teams including seven in-state schools and five Mid-American Conference schools. Coach Katherine Mowat said that her team didn't perform like she would have liked, however, this was just the second tournament of the fall season for the team.
"I hate using the word disappointed, but that's how I feel about our play in this tournament," she said. "I just wish we could have played a little better, especially here at our home tournament and at out home course."
Senior Kallie Harrison led the way for the Cardinals and tied for 22nd overall shooting a 157 (78-79) for the tournament. Chelsie Flannery posted an overall score of 159, while Amy Roberts shot a 160 for Ball State. Sarah Windlan and Holly Jones rounded out the Cardinals team play scores with Windlan shooting a 162 and Jones posting a 164.
Eastern Michigan University was the 2006 champion of the Cardinal Classic with a combined two-day score of 607. The Eagles finished eight strokes ahead of second place, Ferris State University and Grand Valley State finished third with a score of 617.
Ball State will have three more tournaments this fall before getting ready for the spring schedule where the Cardinals will try and make another strong showing in the MAC Championships.
"Right now we are just trying to make ourselves better every day and get ready for our big fall tournament in Colorado," Windlan said.
Ball State will have next weekend off in order to prepare for the Denver/Ron Moore Invitational in Colorado on Sept. 25-26.
"I think as a team we just need to really come together," Mowat said. "We are slowly doing that with the start of a new season and I am really looking forward to these next 12 days off in order to work individually with the players who will be playing for us in Colorado."
