Ball State University could soon be changing from two withdrawal periods to one.
The proposal has yet to be approved by the President and the Board of Trustees, but it passed through University Senate with no opposition.
"There was a great deal of inconsistency throughout the university regarding the policy," Bruce Hozeski, University Senate chairman, said.
The new policy would reflect withdrawal policies from other state institutions such as Purdue and Indiana University.
Under the policy, students could withdraw without instructor permission, but they would be encouraged to consult their instructor.
President Jo Ann Gora said she this should adopted as early as possible since it appears to be a supported by faculty and the administrators. It could go into effect as early as spring 2006.
