Rooms for 600 additional students will be available in 2010 with the construction of North Residence Hall, a new building approved by the Board of Trustees Friday.
The residence hall will be located north of Neely Avenue, across from Studebaker East and West halls, and will cost $43 million to construct.
Tom Kinghorn, vice president for Business Affairs and treasurer, said student housing is one of Ball State's strengths; the university can house one-third of the student population.
This is part two of a 15-year plan discussed by board members, which includes renovation of the L.A. Pittenger Student Center and the Rec Center.
During the meeting, the board also approved the work on the Student Center.
