BSU rep considers new job

Shupp will leave for Michigan State if husband gets faculty position

Ball State's associate vice president for Marketing and Communications has been offered, and accepted with contingency, the assistant vice president for University Relations position at Michigan State University."It was an opportunity that was a surprise to me," Heather Shupp, associate vice president for Marketing and Communications, said. "I haven't looked at any other jobs since coming here."While she said she has accepted the job, the acceptance is contingent on Michigan State offering her husband, Robert Shupp, assistant professor of economics at Ball State, a faculty position."It's essential that he has a faculty appointment," she said. "We are just waiting for the final bits of that to come through."That decision should be finalized today. If the university cannot offer him a job, she said she will not take the position and will remain at Ball State.Michigan State began advertising the position in June, and Heather Shupp said she was recommended by former co-workers, who had worked at Michigan State. She was contacted in July, interviewed in August and offered the job in September.Heather Shupp is a finalist for the position, Deb Hammacher, director of Media Communication at Michigan State, said, but could not confirm that an offer has been made."The most important thing for me to say is I'm not leaving Ball State because I'm not happy at Ball State," Heather Shupp said. "This is a great opportunity for me."
