ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT: Brennan to replace Land in athletic office

Director of compliance, eligibility to join staff on Oct. 9 from TCU

The Ball State Athletic Department has hired Kyle Brennan to replace Dave Land for the position of director of compliance and eligibility, according to a document released by the athletic department.

The tentative start date for Brennan will be Oct. 9, and he said he is very excited about coming to Ball State.

"Ball State's a great institution, athletically and academically," Brennan said. "I look forward to working with Tom Collins and Dr. Gora, who are both leaders in the industry."

Brennan served as the director of athletics compliance at Texas Christian University prior to taking the Ball State job. His main responsibility was to supervise rules education dealing with coaches, staff, student-athletes and donors.

Athletic Director Tom Collins said Brennan's previous work experience at TCU and Northern Illinois University will be a valuable asset to the athletics department by taking a proactive compliance education process for student-athletes and coaches.

"He's done a lot with compliance issues and he can adapt our current policies and make some changes as he see's necessary." Collins said. Brennan will be replacing Land after he announced his retirement on Aug. 31, leaving his position vacant before the start of the school year. His 21-year tenure at Ball State was clouded by a textbook scandal that took place last Fall Semester.

The scandal violated the NCAA's "extra benefits" rule for players that were getting books for classes that they were not taking. The violations occurred in seven of 18 sports that Ball State offers which resulted in suspensions of 61 total athletes.
