WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cardinals struggle to find rhythm

Ball State loses season opener

The first night of the Nike/Active Ankle weekend turned out to be a disappointment for the Cardinals who were shut-out at Worthen Arena, 3-0 (30-23, 31-29, 30-21) by the Xavier Musketeers.

The four-team tournament hosted by Ball State University started out rough for the 0-1 Cardinals who beat Xavier last season, but couldn't find a rhythm Friday night.

One of the highlights for Ball State was senior Kelly Cochran breaking the 1,000 kill milestone for her career. Junior Brittany May led the Cardinals with 10 kills and junior Angie Parrell had three kills and 26 assists.

The Cardinals will look to improve Saturday morning as they play IPFW before an 8 p.m. match-up against Michigan State.
