Stadium, commuter parking affected by opening game

University will tow vehicles after 9 p.m. tonight

Students parking in stadium and commuter lots will have to change their routine because of Thursday night's football game.

Ball State University requires students who park in the stadium and stadium overflow lots to move their vehicles to commuter lots between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Thursday, commuters are given three options. The following churches have provided their parking lots for use:

- Hazelwood Christian Church at 1400 W. University Ave.

- St. Francis of Assisi (Newman Center) at 1200 W. Riverside Ave.

- Westminster Presbyterian Church at 2801 W. Riverside Ave.

Gene Burton, director of public safety, said the system, which has been in place three years since Ball State started having night games, might inconvenience commuters. He said commuters should leave a little earlier Thursday morning and have patience.

"We don't anticipate it being a problem this year," Burton said. "The last two years we've had very few complaints."

In addition to the parking adjustments, Tillotson Avenue between McGalliard Road and Bethel Avenue will be closed at 4:30 p.m. Thursday and will reopen when traffic has cleared after the game.
