The Ball State University women's track and field team returns to action this weekend traveling down I-69 to Anderson.
On Saturday, the Cardinals will attend the Anderson University Pre-Conference meet hoping to improve upon their outdoor campaign. Field events kick off the meet at 11 a.m.
This week, senior Jennifer McCoy was named Mid-American Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week for her performance last weekend at the Searay Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. McCoy captured a third place finish in the heptathlon April 14 with a combined score of 5,291, breaking the school record (5,202). The mark was also a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in addition to being ranked 12th in the nation this year. McCoy's time of 14.09 in the 100 hurdles was a personal record, while her jump of 19-07 1/2 in the long jump was an NCAA regional qualifying mark.
Focus this week, however, is to get back on track after two weeks of disappointment from the team. Coach Sue Parks said that with it being crunch time in the season, the Cardinals need momentum leading up to the conference meet.
"As of right now we need to get healthier," Parks said. "We also need to start posting the kind of marks that we are capable of going into the MAC."
Following the meet at Anderson this weekend, the club travels to Des Moines, Iowa for the Drake Relays, April 27-29.
