Students promote cultural awareness

More than 100 students stopped to hear members of Ball State University's multicultural organizations promote cultural awareness Wednesday at the Scramble Light.

The rally was the second since several students contested how university police treated a predominately black group of students during a game of midnight tag on LaFollette Field on March 30. Students in the group of 75 said the police disrespected them by using foul language and forcing them to leave for being too loud.

Wednesday's rally was not a rally of protest but one to peacefully address racial and discrimination issues, said junior Ennis Adams, who organized the first rally that took place Friday. It also aimed to address a lack of communication between students and administrators or police, he said.

"It was a strong positive event, and it's not a cure-all for the situation," Adams said. "It was an awareness rally sparking awareness of things that have been on campus for years."
