Services available 24 hours

Online applications to begin unlimited access to students starting Friday, officials say

Students can check their course requests, schedules and grades online any time beginning Friday.

The services provided by Course Planner, Course Request, Course Add/Drop, See My Schedule and See My Grades, as well as access to DAPRs, will no longer shut down at 11 p.m.

Fred Nay, director of University Computing Services, has worked on this change for several months.

"You can imagine the convenience that this gives students," he said. "We're excited about having this capability."

Steve Geraci, former Student Government Association president, said he began pushing for the change in January 2005.

"It was an issue we were constantly saying was important to students," he said.

The availability of student services was extended from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. during Spring Semester 2005, but Geraci said the extension wasn't enough to fulfill some students' needs.

"Even 11 is a little too early for students," he said. "It doesn't make sense with the way students work. They need to have access to that when they get home."

Nay said the change to 24-hour access took time to figure out. He found a software program several months ago that allowed the services to remain accessible overnight, he said. The extended hours will start at 7 a.m. Friday and won't go down at 11 p.m. as usual.

"I expect it to be a very positive transition," Nay said.
