Coming off a tough and close match against the University of Toledo, the men's tennis team left little doubt as to how it would respond.
Ball State University dominated Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, sweeping the match 7-0.
"We played pretty well," coach Bill Richards said. "It was one of the matches where we were the heavy favorites. We were coming off a bad performance and we had to prove something."
The victory over the conference rival keeps the Cardinals undefeated in conference play (3-0 Mid-American Conference) and improved their overall record to 16-6.
"It was a good team effort," Richards said. "We knew what we hoped to do today and we got it done. It was go beat a team we were supposed to beat, and beat them as bad as possible."
The Cardinals' top pair Matt Baccarani and Joe Epkey won its doubles match 8-4 to begin the solid play. Brothers Tony and Jarrod Epkey won 8-5 and the pair of Patrick Thompson and Jose Perdomo won easily, 8-1.
"I thought everyone did pretty good job. We came out with a purpose." Baccarani said. "We turned it around a bit since the tough one at Toledo."
The singles play was just as good as the doubles, as the Cards once again swept the matches. Joe Epkey took his No. 1 one singles match (6-1, 6-2) and No. 2 Patrick Thompson was also victorious (6-1, 6-4).
Things will get challenging Saturday when Ball State travels to Western Michigan University. The Broncos are 22-3 and have tied the school record for wins in a season.
"It will be tough playing at Western." Baccarani said. "It will be a close one. It will be a dogfight."
