WOMEN'S TENNIS: Ball State opens conference season

The Ball State University women's tennis team (6-6) will open conference play this weekend as it travels to play Toledo and Eastern Michigan.

"They're more emotional," coach Kathy Bull said. "Everyone is more attached because there's history there. These are always really challenging matches. You just get alive, you get a little more excited."

No. 2 singles player Stephanie Farrar is still battling back problems, which started affecting her play before Spring Break. Farrar is playing through the pain, although she has struggled to make it through a 45-minute practice session.

"It's always the second match of the weekend that is a struggle with her," Bull said. "I always tell my team the first match of the weekend is our biggest concern. One match at a time."

Farrar leads the team with a 9-6 record. Katie Owens and Jennifer Pollack are 7-5, and Jessica Thompson is 7-6 on the year.

Toledo (9-3) and Eastern Michigan (5-5) are also playing their conference openers this weekend.
