Team Lisec fills cabinet, other positions

Student Government Association senators and executives made appointments and discussed legislation at the first Student Senate meeting of the term.

Three cabinet positions were filled with Sen. Tyler Crane named secretary of diversity, Adam Link renamed secretary of community relations, and SGA newcomer Matt Clay appointed Press Secretary. When Link graduates this spring, President Asher Lisec said former senator Matt Bare will assume his position.

Jaime Manuel and Josh Dougherty were appointed parliamentarian and chairman of the Credentials Board, respectively. All appointments were approved unanimously.

The Academic Affairs Committee is struggling with the university on computerizing the writing competency exam, Chairman Matt Walker said. Several faculty members will either not talk about it or are not supportive, Walker said, but it would help the campus conserve paper.

"It's a lofty goal, but it needs to be done," he said.

Sidewalk paving legislation was discussed in Community and Environmental Affairs Committee. It would support paving mulch paths around campus.

Student Services Chairwoman Cara Schuler said she spoke with new Dining Services Director Jon Lewis this week and will ask him to come speak at senate Wednesday.

The next SGA-sponsored blood drive is scheduled for from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 5 and 6. Jessica Polley, blood drive committee chairwoman, asked for help bringing the drive - "Angels for Life" - together.

"If anyone wants to be a part of the committee please let me know," she said. "There's a lot of stuff to do in a short amount of time."

Next week, senators will vote for a president pro-tempore, the president of Student Senate. Three senators - Betsy Mills, Loren Ray and Walker - were nominated for the position.
