MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards travel, seek to improve from slump

The Ball State University men's volleyball team travels to No. 10 Loyola today as it looks to improve its recent slump. The Cardinals (15-4, 4-3 Midwest Intercollegiate Volleyball Association) beat Loyola in three games in February. They hope for the same results Friday evening against the Ramblers. Saturday, the Cardinals travel to Quincy (11-13, 3-6 MIVA).

Senior Dave Carlson said he is ready to play in Loyola's different atmosphere.

"We've worked on playing off the rafters," Carlson said. "I've had to adjust my sets a lot. It's a lot more ball control, but we're doing a lot of good adjustments. I think we should be set to play."

Coach Joel Walton has high hopes for the Cardinals as they fight for a spark in the last month of the season.

"Its still a wide open race and a lot of things can happen," Walton said. "What we want to be doing in this last month is build momentum as we head towards the tournament, fixing things that have failed in recent weeks, and that guys find their confidence so that when we get down to April and early May, we're playing the best volleyball possible."
