The Museum of Art will play host to readings by three authors whose first books were published in 2005. Joy Castro, Victoria Chang and Ander Monson will read excerpts from their books of memoir, poetry and fiction as part of the second annual In Print Festival.
Joy Castro's memoir, "The Truth Book: Escaping a Childhood of Abuse Among Jehovah's Witnesses," was published by Arcade Publishing. According to Castro's Web site, joycastro.com, the book is an account of her struggle to deal with religious hypocrisy, identity and sexuality. Castro has had three poems published in separate collections as well as works of nonfiction and fiction published in magazines and scholarly journals.
Victoria Chang won the Crab Orchard Review Award Series in Poetry for her first book, "Circle." Chang's work has appeared in numerous journals including The Nation, Poetry, The New Republic and Best American Poetry 2005. She is also the editor of the anthology "Asian American Poetry: The Next Generation."
Ander Monson's first two books, "Other Electricities," a genre-bending novel, and "Vacationland," a book of poetry, were published in May 2005. Monson teaches creative writing at Grand Valley State University, and edits DIAGRAM, a literary magazine. His works have appeared in North American Review, Fence and Boston Review.
