The Ball State University gymnastics team earned second place three times in one week.
On March 5, the Cardinals competed against Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau with a final score of 195.550-187.325.
Another competition on Friday landed Ball State ahead of Air Force, but the team still finished second to the University of Kentucky. Ball State scored a total of 189.625 points, Kentucky had 194.300 points and Air Force had 178.175 points.
Junior Kelly Watson earned second place in the all-around at Kentucky with a score of 38.300. Sophomore Kaitlyn Wills was right behind in third-place with a score of 37.950.
Simonton said the team went to Kentucky and hit every single routine.
"We had a heart-to-heart team discussion and the week of spring break we saw a new team," Simonton said. "We did not have a single fall."
The last meet for the gymnastics team was Sunday. The Cardinals were up against Western Michigan but lost 191.625-187.525.
Junior Kelly Watson placed third in the all-around with 37.900 points. Sophomores Erica Gilkerson and Kaitlyn Wills held positions in fourth and fifth place.
Simonton said the team did a lot of building and now they are at their peak.
"We are getting there," Simonton said. "We're finally getting together on bars. You'd be just floored by how well they are doing. We'll take this in to the MAC championship.
