Daily News wins 38 national awards

The Ball State Daily News recently won several national awards.

The Columbia Scholastic Press Association awarded the Daily News with two Gold Crowns, an award for overall excellence in student media. More than 1,400 college newspapers, magazines and yearbooks entered the contest. Only nine newspapers won Gold Crowns, and only six won two.

The Daily News also won 34 Golden Circles, awards recognizing the individual achievements of students. This was more than any other college paper. The University of Michigan won the second most at 18, and Indiana University was third with 14.

Also, Chief Reporter Adrian Sharp placed third in the personality profile category of the William Randolph Hearst Foundation's Journalism Awards Program. Chief Reporter Whitney Hoyt placed 11th in the same category. Sharp received $1,000 with his award.

The Hearst Awards Program encourages college journalists, and this is the highest the Daily News has ever placed in this program.
