WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Cards look to end strong

Four conference games remain for Ball State before MAC tourney

As the regular season winds down and with the conference tournament around the corner, the women's basketball team is looking for a strong finish.

Ball State University has four games remaining before the Mid-American Conference Tournament, and has a goal to win all four.

Coach Tracy Roller said her team realizes the importance of finishing the season on a successful note.

"I feel more of a sense of urgency from our team, which is encouraging," Roller said.

Ball State (14-9, 7-5 MAC) must find a way to defeat the red-hot Western Michigan team in order to keep its goal alive. The Broncos have won eight of their last nine games, including five straight.

Western Michigan is led by the duo of Carrie Moore and Casey Rost. Moore is averaging 17.4 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Rost is also averaging 16.4 points per game.

"We're not going to tire them out and we're not going to wear them down," Roller said. "We have to find an answer to them on both ends of the floor."

Western Michigan (12-11, 9-3 MAC) sits in second place in the West Division. Ball State beat the Broncos 81-70 on the road earlier this season in the second game of the conference season.

"Western is a great team and it's a big advantage that we're playing at home," said Becca Bajorek, who scored a career-high 16 points against Toledo on Wednesday. "But I think if we all come out with some energy and intensity, then it should be a good night for us."

The Cards beat Toledo in come-from-behind fashion on Wednesday. Ball State shot 57 percent in the second half and out-scored the Rockets 42-19 after halftime.

Kelsey Corbin scored 16 points in the contest to tie for team-high honors. Corbin said in order to win games down the stretch, the Cards need to execute their game plan.

"We feel like a lot of times, if we get beat or we're not playing well, it's our fault," she said. "Teams change their defenses to make us play worse, but ultimately it comes down to us executing what we need to do."
