WOMEN'S TENNIS: Cardinals dominated in 7-0 setback to Kansas

Ball State to use new lineup in next weekend's matches

Kansas University made the trip to Indiana this weekend to take on both Indiana University and Ball State University. Unfortunately, this guest was not so nice to the Cardinals.

The Jayhawks overpowered Ball State on their way to a 7-0 victory Sunday afternoon at a match in Bloomington, Ind.

The only victory recorded by the Cardinals was at No. 2 doubles, where the team of Katie Owens and Stephanie Farrar defeated Lauren Hommel and Edina Horvath 8-4.

In No. 1 singles, Ksenia Bukina, a freshman from Russia who is ranked No. 79 in the nation, easily defeated Jessica Thompson 6-0, 6-3. Coach Kathy Bull said Kansas was just too talented.

"Kansas is a good team, but we have some anxiety issues, and most of my team didn't play very well today," Bull said.

In other singles play, Elizaveta Avdeeva defeated Farrar 6-0, 6-2; Christana Skoda beat Haly Calderwood 6-2, 6-1; Lauren Hommel won over Jennifer Pollack 6-3, 6-1; Yuliana Svistun beat Katie Owens 6-0, 6-2; and Brittany Brown hammered Emma Retter 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Skoda/Avdeeva beat Thompson/Calderwood 8-2, and Bukina/Brown beat the team of Pollack/Retter 8-3.

Bull said there will be some changes in the lineup by the time next weekend rolls around.

"We have to be more consistent," Bull said. "We got to work harder this weekend and be more successful next weekend."

Ball State's next matches will be on Saturday, as they take on Dayton at 11 a.m., and Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 4 p.m.
