The wait is finally over.
After playing seven games and being on the road for more than a month, the women's basketball team returns home to Worthen Arena on Saturday.
"Worthen is just such a great place for us," coach Tracy Roller said. "It's been so long that it's going to be a great homecoming for us."-á
Ball State University (8-5, 1-1 Mid-American Conference) will play Central Michigan at 7 p.m., marking the Cardinals' first home game since Dec. 4.
The Cardinals are 4-1 at home this season. They won their first four contests by a 13-point average before losing to Valparaiso, 61-49.
Junior guard Stephanie Douglas said the Cardinals are looking forward to returning home.
"That's going to be a relief because we've been on the road [for so long]," Douglas said. "It's always good to be at home. We get to play our own music. Being at home is always better."
Ball State went 3-4 on its road trip with wins against Butler, St. Mary's College (Calif.) and Western Michigan. Three of the Cards' four losses came by four points or less.
Ball State snapped a two-game losing streak on Wednesday by beating Western Michigan for their first conference win. Tina Bolte, one of four Cardinals in double-figures, led the team with 22 points. Kelsey Corbin had a career-high 11 assists to go with 14 points and six rebounds.
"It's huge in the MAC where you have a road trip like we do back-to-back that you come out of it with at least a split," Roller said. "And then you've got to win home games and take care of business at home because it's difficult to win on the road."
Ball State will remain at home for its next game Wednesday against Eastern Michigan before having to travel again.
"It will be nice to be back home - I can't even remember the last home game we had," Bolte said. "It's always good to play MAC games at home, so we're really looking forward to coming back."
