After finishing a five-game home stand, which included just one loss, the women's basketball team will start a month-long road trip this weekend.
Ball State University (5-1) will play its next seven games away from Worthen Arena. This road-trip might come at a less-than ideal time, as the Cardinals suffered their first loss of the season in their previous game.
Coach Tracy Roller said the Cards have been focusing on themselves this week in practice.
"We just really needed to get back to basics and work on a lot of 'us' stuff and get our confidence back, especially offensively," Roller said.
Ball State was held to 49 points against Valparaiso Sunday, 26 points below its season average.
The Cardinals will look to get back on the winning track Saturday at Butler.
The Bulldogs (2-4) have wins over Central Florida and Eastern Illinois in overtime. Unlike the Cardinals, who opened their season with five out of six games at home, Saturday's contest will be the Bulldogs' first home game.
"The nice thing is that Butler doesn't really run anything that we haven't seen before," Roller said. "We are ready for the screens they're going to set for us. We've [seen] great guards before, and we've [seen] great post players before. We just have to come out and play our game and play hard, and I think we could give ourselves a great chance."
Julie DeMuth was named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week on Monday. DeMuth has notched three straight double-doubles and leads the Cards in points per game (14.3) rebounds per game (10) and total steals (11).
Freshman Porchia Green will likely remain sidelined with a knee injury until January, Roller said. Green, the Cards' fourth leading scorer at 10.5 points per game, will eventually undergo an MRI to further determine the extent of her injury.
Roller said the key to getting back on the winning path will be doing the things that led BSU to a 5-0 start.
"We have to play our game," she said. "We've got to play as well as we have been playing. We have to play with confidence and push the ball."
