Police Chief Burton appointed as new accreditation commissioner

Ball State Police Chief Gene Burton was appointed as a commissioner for the Indiana Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, a newly created state organization that will provide accreditation for police and sheriff departments in Indiana. The commission's organizers asked Burton to participate, along with other police chiefs, sheriffs and representatives from higher education, public works and other areas.

"We are going to form accreditation standards for Indiana," Burton said.

ILEAC will work with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc., the national accreditation board, to develop criteria for a state-level accreditation.
