Mark your calendars: Blues icon B.B. King will play a special Valentine's Day concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006 at Emens Auditorium. The concert will mark King's return to Muncie since last performing in April 2003. Tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m. at the Emens Box Office.
In reference to ticket sales, assistant director of Emens Darcy Wood said, "We expect a pretty good demand. His recent performance at IU in Bloomington sold out."
Age has not slowed King down; he is currently on an extensive tour across the United States that will run through next year. The 80-year-old guitarist has influenced countless musicians including Eric Clapton, who contributed to King's latest duets album, "80." King is not only a Grammy Award-winner, but also a Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame inductee. Despite having only one crossover hit on the pop charts (1970's "The Thrill Is Gone"), he is a living legend.
"He's just a great live artist and a piece of history," director of Emens Bob Myers said. "Out of the many shows I've [coordinated], it's just one of those [performances] you don't want to miss out on." Myers described King as an artist who everyone would enjoy seeing in concert in their lifetime.
The concert is not only a unique opportunity to see a legend perform, but it also offers couples to do something different for Valentine's Day, said Wood. "It's kind of nice to be able to do something besides dinner and a movie," she said.
