SWIMMING AND DIVING: Ball State takes invitational

Men finish in second place behind Wisconsin-Milwaukee

The Ball State University women's swimming and diving team took first out of five teams at the second annual Doug Coers Invitational this weekend by scoring 935 points while the men's team securely held on to second place with a final score of 547 points.

The women's team took most of the points in the 50-yard freestyle event by taking second through eighth places. Michelle Huang lead the scoring for Ball State in second place with a time of 24.66 seconds.

The 400-yard individual medley was won by Mary Brinkoetter with a final time of 4:36.70, and Meghan Patterson finished third with a time of 4:42.89.

Erika Paul took first place in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 58.33 seconds and was followed by teammates Amber Arnold in second with a time of 1:00.07 seconds and Erin Johnson in third with a time of 1:00.68 seconds.

Addison Del Rio placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke event with a time of 1:06.60. Del Rio also captured the 200-yard breast-stroke with a time of 2:30.82.

For the men's team, Zach Whitaker was unstoppable on the one and three meter diving boards. Whitaker took top honors in both with total scores of 282.40 and 285.30, respectfully.

The team of Jagen Arnold, Ritchie Caudill, Kurtis Leer and Tyler McQuiston took first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a final time of 1:27.17 seconds.

Caudill also took first places in the 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard medley relay and 200-yard breaststroke events.

Leer also had a high scoring meet for the men's team by also taking first in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relay.
