Junior Amy Holst became the second player in Ball State University history to be named to the Academic All-District V Team on Thursday.
Holst was the only Mid-American Conference player to be selected to the team, which includes players from Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Canadian provinces of Manitoba and Ontario.
Former player Dee Nocero made the team twice in her career, and coach Ron Rainey said it's a great honor for a player to be selected.
"The award means she worked very hard in the classroom and on the field, and that's the type of person she has always been," Rainey said.
By being selected to the team, Holst will appear on the national ballot for possible inclusion on the Academic All-American team, a feat that would be a first for the Ball State soccer team.
"It's an awesome honor, and hopefully she breaks through and becomes our first Academic All-American," Rainey said.
Holst, a microbiology major, owns the team's second-highest GPA of 3.907. She finished the 2005 season with four goals, three assists and 11 points in 18 starts.
