MEN'S BASKETBALL: Donation in honor of men's basketball fan

A new scholarship has been created at Ball State University to provide financial assistance to a men's basketball player each year.

The scholarship was endowed to honor Susan A. Bell, who was a long-time supporter of the men's basketball program before her death in 2004.

Bell's husband, R. Donald Bell, created the fund with a $52,000 gift to the university.

Susan Bell, who was born in 1928 in Morgantown, Ky., enrolled at Ball State after the youngest of her three sons entered kindergarten when she was 40-years-old. She earned a bachelor's degree in English with honors in 1972 from the university.

After graduating with the degree, Bell became one of the men's basketball team's biggest fans and attended every home game.

The Susan A. Bell scholarship will be awarded at the annual men's basketball banquet.
