LETTERS: Gay church story shows one possible perspective

Dear Editor,

Upon reading the "Rainbow Cathedral" article in Thursday's paper, I was disappointed in the Ball State Daily News staff.

As a Christian, I believe that love and compassion should be shown to all God's children - all people. However, just because God loves people doesn't mean he rejoices in sin, which is exactly what the Bible calls homosexuality.

Leviticus 18:22 states, "Do not practice homosexuality; it is a detestable sin."

In the Rainbow Cathedral church, they have not only ignored this scripture, but the church is founded on this sin. The name alone, Rainbow Cathedral, shows gay pride. It suggests this sin is not something to be repented against, but is accepted by God. It would be the same situation if a church was formed to celebrate any other sin, example alcoholism.

Even if I wasn't a Christian and didn't fully believe God's word, I would still feel the article was completely one-sided. ...

Imagine how much more interesting the article would have been if the Rev. Erica Eckensberger would have been asked her belief on the several Bible scriptures about homosexuality - that's definitely something I would have liked to have heard her opinion on. ...

There is no law of the land that forbids you to start a gay church, but there are definitely laws in the Bible that would not support the Rainbow Cathedral. ...

Both sides are there, and it's up to each individual person to decide what is right.
