BSU offers three graduate scholarships

The following are brief summaries of graduate scholarships whose deadlines are approaching. Barb Stedman, Scholarship Coordinator, works with students in the preparation and application process. The National Science Foundation offers graduate fellowships in the mathematical, physical, biological, engineering and behavioral and social sciences and in research-based Ph.D. programs in science education. Specialized components are awards for Women in Engineering and Women in Computer and Information Science. Citizens or permanent resident aliens of the United States who plan to pursue a research-based master's or doctoral degree in the field of science, mathematics, or engineering supported by the National Science Foundation are eligible. The deadline varies between Nov. 2 through 9 depending on the discipline.

 

The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship is an opportunity for New Americans who plan to attend or are currently enrolled in a graduate program in the United States. It was developed by Paul and Daisy Soros in order to recognize the contribution of immigrants and their children to American life. The reward includes a maintenance grant of $20,000 and a tuition grant of one-half the tuition cost of the U.S. graduate program.

A New American is an individual who is a resident alien (holds a Green Card), has been naturalized as a U.S. citizen or is the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens and plans to continue their education in the United States. The deadline is Nov. 1.

 

The Gates Cambridge Trust was established by Bill and Melinda Gates in 2000 through a donation to Cambridge University. It provides an international scholarship program at Cambridge through graduate study fellowships. Winners are chosen based on intellect, leadership and commitment to serving their communities. Candidates for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship may come from any country in the world except the United Kingdom and should normally be under the age of 30. Also, a Gates Cambridge Scholarship can only be taken up by a student who has been admitted to Cambridge through the University's normal academic procedures. The deadline is Nov. 1.
