Ball State University will announce on Saturday, during its Homecoming game, the result of a proposal that would rename its football stadium and workout facilities.
The Board of Trustees will meet Saturday at 12:30 p.m. in the Alumni Center to discuss a proposal that will change the names of the two buildings.
Tom DeWeese, president of the board, said that the announcement will be made during the Homecoming game.
The board holds the right to name all of the buildings and facilities on Ball State's campus.
Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham was unavailable for comment.
The University will be announcing the end of the stadium fundraising campaign. The stadium campaign committee set a goal of $12 million to renovate the stadium, suites and press box, among other improvements.
The press box will be named after Paul and Patricia Kozel, who donated $1.25 million in late June. The university announced in late July that the press box will be called the Paul and Patricia Kozel Communications Center. The center will include an improved press box that will have a state of the art media room, as well as donor, president's and individual rental suites.
The stadium campaign began Oct. 30, 2004, and the Kozel's donation brought the total amount raised to $10.3 million in June.
The other significant donations include a $2 million pledge from John and June Scheumann who have donated $3.7 million to football and field hockey renovations since 1997. John Scheumann, who played football at Ball State, was a 1971 graduate of the university.
Jerry Peirson, Director of Athletic Development, said the stadium campaign had reached $11.6 million as of two weeks ago.
"I can't divulge the exact amount, only to say we were successful," Peirson said. "We were awfully close to $12 million, and that was three weeks ago."
Ed Shipley, executive director of alumni programs, added that they have received significant pledges this week.
