BASKETBALL: Stovall to join conference preseason team

Junior Ball State University guard Peyton Stovall was named to the Mid-American Conference West Division Preseason Team.

Stovall continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered in the MAC tournament last season against Bowling Green. He is the first Ball State player to be named to the team since Theron Smith, now a member of the Denver Nuggets, in 2002.

The top returning scorer in the conference entering the season, Stovall averaged 16.7 points per game as a sophomore. After shooting 38 percent from the field as a freshman, he improved to nearly 45 percent. He also increased his three point shooting percentage from 26.5 percent to nearly 39 percent.

Also on the West Division team are Northern Illinois' Mike McKinney, Eastern Michigan's John Bowler, Toledo's Sammy Villegas and Western Michigan's Joe Reitz.

Two players from Ohio - Mychal Green and Leon Williams were named to the MAC East Division team. Joining them are Akron's Romeo Travis, Buffalo's Yassin Idbihi and Kent State's Kevin Warzynski.

Ball State will play host to Saginaw Valley State on Nov. 12 in pre-season play, then opens the regular season with a Nov. 19 game against Oakland City.
