Ball State's women's tennis team got a first look at some new players and some competitive playing time over the weekend.
"It's just about what we expected," coach Kathy Bull said. "We had some good performances."
Bull cited junior Jessica Thompson and sophomore Jennifer Pollack as two players who had noteworthy performances over the weekend. Thompson scored two wins over Illinois-Chicago's Jaklin and Marquette's Watkins in three sets. Pollack won three of four singles matches, over players from Indiana, Minnesota and Marquette.
"[Pollack] had a pretty tough spring, and there were a couple things she was going to do," Bull said. "I have a lot of respect for someone who says they're going to do something to work up and does it. It's nice when you see someone's hard work pay off."
The Cardinals also debuted some doubles teams. On Friday, Stephanie Farrar and Thompson and Haly Calderwood and Pollack scored doubles wins over Illinois-Chicago. Later, Farrar and Katie Owens teamed up for a win over a duo from Marquette.
