The Hurricane Katrina benefit concert held last Saturday at The Center Stage raised $1,151, according to Stan Stevens owner of The Center Stage and The Herot.
Stevens, along with Michelle Kinsey, features writer/ All Access editor of The Muncie Star Press, organized the event on short notice in an effort to quickly raise money for Hurricane Katrina victims.
The Greater Food Bank of Baton Rouge will receive the money raised from the benefit concert.
"We believe the Greater Food Bank of Baton Rouge to be the most effective charity," Stevens said.
Stevens said the Greater Food Bank of Baton Rouge donates 98 percent of all the funds it receives to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Stevens said that many people volunteered and donated to the fund-raiser and he plans to help with another benefit event this fall.
On Oct. 1, 100 dogs that were rescued from New Orleans will be up for adoption at the Oktoberfest festival, held at The Center Stage from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
"As long as things stay the way they are in New Orleans, we'll keep doing benefits," Stevens said.
